One Stripe At A Time

Although it has been a very busy week, I've managed to squeeze in some time working on my socks. Early in the morning when I can't sleep, in the evening when the kids are busy playing, in the car when my husband is driving. It all adds up to several inches of progress, and it reminds me that a little bit at a time really does make a difference. When I sit down to knit I set a goal of one stripe, about five rounds, before I get up to do something I'm supposed to be doing. You know, that never ending list of things to do that somehow grows everyday. Kind of like my sock.
My aunt's mother passed away this morning. The kids and I will be heading north tomorrow with my parents to be with our extended family this weekend. It is good to be able to be there in person rather than just in thought. We are leaving the house in a bit of a hurry, which means I have no time to tidy up and we will be returning in a few days to our current state of disarray.

The bright side is that we will be seeing family that we don't get to see very often and I will be able to knit up a storm in the car. Just think of the progress I'll make, one stripe at a time; and that list of things to do will wait patiently for my return.

  4. Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your aunt's mom and the loss her leaving will be to all of you.
It's bitter sweet, but I have grown to appreciate memorials in that everyone takes the time to gather together and talk about old times. There are usually stacks of old photographs, and they prompt people to tell stories you've never heard before.
Plus, what a comfort to have a long drive with your folks where you can kind-of slip back into daughter role for a little while, and let yourself be wrapped in the pride they have in you and the life you're building with your own family.
