Care to guess why Aidan has decided to perch on top of the mantle and play with Legos and K'nex?
I'd say it's a safe place where his sister won't disturb him.
Care to guess what part of your body disappears when you stand up?
Your lap (a little riddle from a book Aidan read to me).
Care to guess how many eggs our chickens laid in the month of August?
I think I'll be gone from this space this week (has something to do with projectile vomiting and other non-blog worthy events), so I've decided to host a little contest in my absence. Guess how many eggs our eight chickens laid in August, and the closest answer will receive a little box of goodies from our foothill home. I can tell you that one of these will be in the box.
(I can't stop making them.)
The final tally is not yet in. Last I checked, Bess was sitting in the nesting box doing her good deed for the day. We have six nesting boxes, yet they all choose to use the same one. Tomorrow's math assignment for my two kids will be counting all the tally marks on our egg calender.
Can't wait to see your guesses! I'll be back at the end of the week to announce the winner.
P.S. Some of you might have heard that our foothill town was devastated by a wildfire that broke out Sunday afternoon and scorched hundreds of acres and burned 30-60 homes (depending on the news source) and multiple businesses. We are all OK, but please keep in your minds and hearts those that have lost everything. What a humbling example of how everything can change in the blink of an eye.
Hmm, 62?
ReplyDeleteoh, I hope there's recovery in the house soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess that you got 188 eggs in August.

ReplyDeleteI hope one of the goodies does not have to do with projectile vomitting. haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting about the families and their homes . . . wow, it does stir some emotions. So sad.
Miss you friend. I need some Molly in my life.
350
ReplyDeleteAnd ditto on the flowers, what are they?!
Oh, Molly. I heard about the fires but didn't put together that it was where you are. So glad you're all ok, but so sad...
ReplyDeleteI love that picture of A. That's really something.

ReplyDeleteWhich fire is near you? I also have family near a fire, but like you, they're fine.
104. Fun contest. Feel better fast.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is 165. I'm glad you're OK, those fires are terrible when they get going. And prayers for the people who lost because of them.
ReplyDeleteWe were on your river last week--at least I think so--the middle fork of the American--and saw the remains of a previous burn--the barren hillside, no home for quail or deer. And this one got people's homes. So sorry. I love your hexagons. My 4 year old daughter loves your chicks in eggshells. We're guessing 127.
ReplyDeleteI will guess 130. I am glad that your family is o.k. I heard about fires and wondered where exactly it was...
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but I feel like every one is guessing high. My own little group of hens have only given me a few so far, maybe that's why I feel pessimistic about yours.. I say somewhere around 65.
ReplyDeleteGlad your family and home is safe from all the fires. Feel better soon.
See you in a week! xo

235--go little chickens go!
Best Wishes from Oregon and be well.
P.S. I tried your chocolate cake recipe, and yes...it is good for breakfast, and maybe a little for lunch too. I had to put it in the freezer.
Hmmn. I have to say 126.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better soon!
I'm going to say 208 eggs. We've been lucky so far as fires go this year. They're so scary!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the fires and glad you are ok. My question is: how many hens do you have? I will say number of hens x 23.
ReplyDelete(I've never wrote to you but I've read your blog for several months. I like your sewing, your knitting and your great photographys. Sorry for my poor english, I need a dictionary all the time.

Love the mantle shot! As for the eggs I am guessing 220 in August. Is that nuts? That's a lot of eggs. Are you counting the one in the pocket? Sorry.

ReplyDeleteI'd say 132???
ReplyDeletei might get around to guessing the egg count later, but i just wanted to say that the table cloth is turning out great! i thought the hexagons were much bigger based on your earlier photos of them, but they're super cute mini ones! wow. that's a lot of work!
ReplyDeleteohhh I was going to guess 248... mmmmm 245??
ReplyDeleteIf you have 12 chickens... I'll guess 281 eggs.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you do with them all??
The mention of both projectile vomiting and the Auburn fire led my mind to combine the two into one image of them flying you over the fire like those water-tanker planes spewing liquids onto the flames. Hope you feel better now that the flames are out and your county doesn't need your help in that area any more.
ReplyDelete42.
ReplyDeletei'm saying 103. just because it sounds like a good number. lucky hen lady.
ReplyDeleteso sorry to hear about your town. glad you are safe and well, and sending warm thoughts to those who were not as lucky. actually, wish we could send all the rain we've been having. seems a bit unfair that we are drowning in it while you are so dry.
