Walk With Me

I've always considered myself an October girl, but I'm fast becoming smitten with January.

walk with me

Here in California, we have no right to call this season winter.

The last two days have been a sneak preview of spring.

Yesterday, my children kicked off their shoes, rolled up their pants, and frolicked in a public fountain.

Today, I walked down the tracks to the frog pond. Well, pond is an exaggeration. It's actually deep, permanent ruts in the mud which have created a breeding ground for frogs, mosquitoes, and all things beautiful.

Winter, I love your texture, your light, your simplicity, your promise, your presence. Feel free to stay awhile.

  1. I am a bit jealous. We have had record snowfall and frigid temps. It is beginning to warm but nothing like California. I live in San Francisco for a few years and summer in the city was almost like winter here.

  5. Thanks for the walk. It was and is beautiful. Here in western Or. we have had some snow, but as always, rain. Oh, I forgot to mention fog..pea soup fog. It can be below freezing and then a few days later in the 50's. Today, I heard the "croggies", as one of my sons used to call them.
Little peepers coming up from the mud. We are supposed to get some torrential rains tonight. It's all good, unless you have three Newfoundland dogs who don't give a you know what about rain.

  7. It has been glorious here in SoCA, too. Today was just the softest day. I love the air on these warm "gift" days of January in CA. It's my favorite time of year here. Beautiful photos!

  9. Here do it is unseasonably mild - everything looks so lush and green. It is still wet and gray. Very wet and gray.

  11. Funny, I just made a similar post. I'm not ready for spring just yet either. Granted I don't have California weather, but still. I'd much prefer the quiet dark evenings for a little longer.
