What Did You Do Today?

With a to-do list like mine, one might be tempted to throw in the towel. Thankfully I learned from my mom the benefit of preparing ahead of time, and Thursday should be smooth sailing.

After giving up the notion that I needed a brand new tablecloth big enough to cover a table I only use once or twice a year, I covered the table in a mix of vintage and thrifted tablecloths. I must admit that my tablecloths make me very happy.
As do these cranberries, which I cooked in port, sugar, balsamic vinegar, and the zest and juice of an orange and lemon.

Fortunately I had help.

Three pounds of sweet potatoes, scrubbed and drying on the windowsill. The funny thing is, I'm the only one who will eat these tomorrow night (and the day after that, and the day after that). I love them that much.
And of course there were dishes.

After I was done in the kitchen for the day, we walked to old town for a late lunch.

On the way home we stopped by the courthouse,

and checked out the former women's prison; Avery's idea.

Back in our neighborhood I spied the local flock of wild turkeys and followed them for a while.

I wonder if they know they are the lucky ones.

Wishing you a memorable day of feasting with your loved ones.

  3. Those poor turkeys are probably running scared!

In my house you'd be fighting everyone for the sweet potatoes, so be thankful that they're all yours. Looks like a fantastic day. Oh how I'd love an old town that I could walk to.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. Happy Thanksgiving, friend.

How do you make your sweet potatoes? I meant to ask you last night. My grammy makes them with the marshmallows melted on top. Ooooo... wouldn't that be good with your homemade marshmallows? Okay, I must be hungry. Bring on the turkey!

    fantastic pictures :)
