I Remember When...

A few years ago, my aunt sent me a set of small bud vases and a cute note about the flowers my young children will bring to me. While my daughter loves to draw pictures of flowers or make flowers out of pipe cleaners for me, my son loves to bring me flowers. I have recently received several fistfuls of daisies, and he truly brings me joy with each precious petal. The flowers are tucked snugly into old spice jars, or even a thimble as shown, since I cannot locate the small bud vases. As I was doing dishes last night, gazing at the flowers on the kitchen windowsill, I was reminded of the song by Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond that was popular when I was young, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”. The song used to remind me of my parents, but it took on a new meaning as I thought about my son. I realized that the day will come when he does not bring me flowers anymore. The smell of blooms will become a bittersweet memory as I remember when...

  1. very sweet. If it makes you feel any better, I know that my brother still does things like that for my mom and he's 36. I adore the daisies in the thimble.

  2. The daisies in the thimble is beautiful! I wasn't sure it was truly a thimble at first. And the last picture is just sad. I will keep the happy one in my head...

  3. ACK! Oh Molly, you're killing me! My middle boy went off to his first day of one day a week kindy, and I've spent the whole morning thinking its just. to. quiet. And now I've got an empty thimble to think about :-( Beautiful photos, and nice to be reminded to cherish all those little blooms.

  4. Just to clarify - I hope you meant it was just the song that reminded you of us and not the lyrics. I know I listened to the song quite a bit, I love the way their voices blend, but the lyrics are the opposite of us. "Our love is here to stay"

  5. Just to clarify:
I still bring flowers, just not often enough.
And Mom is correct, our love for each other and our's is here to stay!

  6. The pictures are so so lovely. I love daisies and my Hubby picks them for me now and then. I get "dandy-lions" from the girls.

  7. Just to clarify, the song IS the opposite of my parents. I bet my mom will be thanking me because she probably got flowers after this blog. Sorry about the sad, empty thimble picture. It just happened after the wind blew. My thimble really is half full.

  9. My parents are the sweetest. And I was right, my dad brought my mom flowers from the farmer's market last Saturday.

  10. So cool about your parents! One of my sons loves to make bouquets for me. May they all always bring us flowers, until someone cute and grandbaby-making comes along, years from now. : )
