Three Words and a Sentence

I'm digging Dan Pink right now. I followed a link to his website the other day, read a few posts, and watched his "Drive" video and TED talk. I took away three words and a sentence.

The three words: Autonomy, Mastery, Purpose

I want those words to govern my life. Maybe I need to applique them on a dishtowel.

The sentence:

"She's not a very good housekeeper, but she keeps a very good house."

That's my sentence, the sentence I wrote about myself after watching the Drive video. It's true, it's humble, it's hopeful - that is, it's my hope that I make a very good house. It's a purpose worth mastering, and every day I can do it a little better.

stitchin'

While Pink's keeping my mind busy, Chanin is still keeping my fingers busy. I'm getting better and faster at hand stitching; it's amazing what you can master when you sit on the couch for hours on end. I'm certainly getting lost in hand stitching, and what a wonderful kind of lost it is.

Now back to that warm, bright, cozy corner of the couch I go, oh so happy to have an extra hour of daylight to lose today.

  7. The whole idea of motivation and moving away from rewards and incentives dovetails nicely with a very thought-provoking parenting course I'm taking. I'm going to be blogging about it in several parts, I think. Dan Pink (thanks for the link) doesn't mention the parenting context, but I think for us moms the connection is pretty easy to make...

  14. I liked this post very much. Show us what you are making there!

Also, do you think a thick strip of elastic might make your slippers more comfy? ...around the rise of the foot? i think they are lovely, and I read you aren't entirely pleased with them, so I thought I'd pass this along...for what it is worth!

  15. i love that sentence. my husband loves watching TED videos on the computer while i'm working in my little 'art room'; we'll have to put that on the list for him to watch and me to 'sort of listen to'.
in regard to 'house work type things' i like to think of myself as a home-maker. a house is a thing to be cleaned and such, but a home is something to carry in the heart.
