Have you seen these little stars made from strips of paper?
When Patricia from Zen Crafting first posted her origami stars, I immediately did a Google search for a pattern. While I didn't find the pattern she used (this was before she posted her tutorial), I did find a tutorial for a different origami star:

I grabbed my Sundance catalog, ran to my paper cutter and started chopping. Then folding. Then teaching my children and my children's friends how to make more stars. They are just so cute and tiny and adorable. Irresistible really.
But what does one do with a bunch of mini origami stars? Maya suggested stringing them to make a garland; she also filled a glass jar with stars. Very cute idea.
This is what I did with a few of mine.
I simply strung several stars onto a short length of wire and formed a mini wreath with a little hook on top for easy hanging. My daughter wants two so she can wear them as earrings.
Origami, stars, recycling, easy, fast - what's not to love about this craft?

I live in Hawaii and for Patriots Day, my kids' school made leis of red white and blue paper stars for the military parents.

ReplyDeleteOh, I love these! My three best friends in middle school were from China, Thailand, and Japan (by way of Hawaii.) They loved to make these, and showed me how. Japanese stationary stores even sell little pads of "star paper" strips in cute colors. Adorable! I love your idea of using catalog pages, though.
