I Have A New Friend
Let me just tell you how we met. My husband announced the other day that he was going to buy me a new sewing machine. I guess he got tired of hearing me curse the 70's era, second hand Singer I have been struggling with the past few years. The thing is, I had no idea what kind of machine I wanted. Quality, yes, but nothing complicated. I like to go forward, backward, and sometimes zig zag a little.
So Thanksgiving day, after he fixed my oven, prepared the turkey and put it in the oven, my prince of a husband went online and started shopping. I was a little busy in the kitchen, so when he asked my opinion on a certain machine, I asked him to ask his mom, who had just arrived. She knows a good sewing machine when she sees one.
Just as George made a decision and was about to place an order, my sister-in-law made an offer we couldn't refuse. She had an extra sewing machine that I was welcome to use. It is a much more of a machine than what we almost bought. Not only does it sew like a dream, but it smells just like her house. I love that smell. I am honored and blessed to have such an incredible sister-in-law; and of course my husband is thrilled that she saved us so much money.
Now I'm not one to name small appliances, but I've made an exception for Bernie. Yes, she and I are going to have many incredible adventures together. We've been extremely busy the last few days preparing a little something you might be interested in. Tomorrow I'm going to set up a little shop in the sidebar and offer some of my creations for sale. I figure running a little store here on my blog will be much easier than re-opening my Etsy shop, and it will save you a few clicks.
So come back tomorrow and see what Bernie and I have in store. Window shoppers are always welcome.

Lucky lucky you! I need a sister-in-law who has spare Berninas just laying around. I'm hoping to find one that I can afford soon.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you're cooking up!
Bernie is lovely... I hope you enjoy getting to know one another. I upgraded machines in the spring and, although she doesn't have a name (yet), she's one of my BEST friends. Can't wait to come by tomorrow!
ReplyDeletehooray! funny thing, my current machine came from my SIL, too!
ReplyDeleteit's good to have good SIL's.

ReplyDeleteCan't. Wait.
ReplyDeleteHooray, on all points! :)
ReplyDeleteHooray, on all points! :)
ReplyDeleteMine is named Bernice. I sent out birth announcements when I bought her (ok, I was a little post-partum crazy too)... When I got mine my friend said "that thing can sew a house". She did not lie. I cannot WAIT to see what a gifted rocket like you does with such a friendly machine in her hand. The right tool for the job, amen.
ReplyDeleteyay for the sewing machine! berninas are the best. :)
ReplyDeletego to my blog, i awarded you. :)
That looks great! I'm pulling out my sewing machine tomorrow to work on a few gifts. I only have one needle left, however, so I'm hoping I won't break it. My machine is very very basic but it gets the job done.
ReplyDeleteThat's so wonderful, I can't wait to see the great things you'll make!!
ReplyDeleteAs my grandmother would have said: "use it in good health". I can't wait to see what you make with it/her.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I haven't forgotten about your scarf - I just haven't made it to the post office yet - pathetic, I know.
oh my goodness! I need a sister-in-law with an extra sewing machine, too!!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see your shop pop up here, too. yay!
YAY! A sewing machine that doesn't evoke cuss words! That is a dream come true! My husband hates when I sew....My machine and I don't always get along!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful. What a nice surprise. I bet that sister-in-law will be getting a wonderful something-sewn as a thank you gift soon.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely husband you have!!!
ReplyDeletehave fun with your new friend!
Lucky you!I'm sure you'll have a beautiful future together...
ReplyDeleteYay for you! Can't wait to see your creations.
ReplyDeletehooray for aweosme gifts!
ReplyDeletePs "mimosa" huh? i like that color, is has champagne in it. lol
How exciting...can't wait!
ReplyDeletei LOVE my bernina..."nina" and i are best friends!
ReplyDeleteOoh! How fun! Over the years I've never purchased my own machine, but have been given 3. The last was a true "gift". She is a 4 year old Janome that my mother in law paid mucho for to do her quilting on and decided she wanted something else. It's way more machine than I could ever need, but I'm having fun with the embroidered names I can create. I must say ignorance is bliss, cause I had no idea my machine was so OLD and needed to retire until I used the new one! Have fun learing all of Bernie's quirks! How exciting!
ReplyDeleteMolly! That is ALL so exciting! Can't wait to see what you put up tomorrow. Can I come Christmas shopping for myself?
ReplyDeletelooks like the days (hours?) before Christmas at my house!
ReplyDeleteLook how happy your new friend is... warm and comfy and right where she belongs!
This is so sweet in so many ways, from the generous offer to the scent of the machine itself.
ReplyDeleteOur 5 year old plopped into the other side of our bed the other morning, sad that his papa had left early that morning to go hunting, breathed deeply, and exclaimed that it smelled just like him.
Hmmm. Maybe I need to start cursomg my sewing machine a little more vocally around others.....the one that I still think of as being my new machine but which I just recently realized was really just a pretty cheapy new machine 20 years ago.
