I was thrilled when I found a long sleeve, brown t-shirt in my size on the clearance rack at the thrift store (yes, a clearance rack at the thrift store - sounds like an oxymoron). I especially loved the yellow stitching up the side seam, but I knew the crown had to go.
A few square inches of fabric and a small struggle with the sewing machine and my mushroom tee was born. I believe I was inspired by our moist weekend - moisture always reminds me of mushrooms.
I proudly wore my mushroom tee to the library yesterday, but on my way out I passed a ginkgo tree and thought, doh! I could have put a golden ginkgo leaf over the crown! Ah, the blessing and curse of appliques - endless possibilities. I'll just have to find another t-shirt.
I love the clearance rack at the thrift store - no joke- and that mushroom motif is darling. You are endlessly clever.
ReplyDeleteMuch nicer look.
ReplyDeleteclearance racks at thrift stores rock! i got a new dress with tags still on it for $2.99!!!! love the app. by the way!
ReplyDeletereally really cute! I need to have more patience and start digging at the thrift store. Then I can be cool like you. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it. What a find!
ReplyDeleteThat mushroom is the cutest! I have a love/hate relationship with ginkos. Sure, they're gorgeous. But DAMN they stink in the fall. (um, I got ginko crud on my shoe the other day. still a bit sensitive about the whole thing)
ReplyDeleteYes, I sometimes get stuck because there are so many options with a given project! I agree, you'll have to find another shirt. Ginko leaves rock!
ReplyDeleteyour pattern choice for the mushroom are so wonderful. I love applique too, so very satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI love the small applique idea...great choice!
ReplyDeletei love that little mushroom.
ReplyDeletecutest little mushroom-how creative of you!
ReplyDeleteooh, yeah, the ginko would have been sweet. But your mushroom is super cute too!
ReplyDeleteI think the mushroom is great! How to you keep the edges of the fabric from fraying?
ReplyDeleteExcellent find!
i love the quarter rack at our thrift store. i love your great idea, too! i often see things at the thrift store that are great...except for some ugly logo. now i know not to pass them up, simply cover them up with something cute!
ReplyDeleteFYI: the leaves are attractive, but female ginkgo trees drop small fruit with foul-smelling and mildly toxic skin that makes them smell like rancid butter or vomit.
